Swedish Medical Products Agency (Swedish MPA) cooperates with the Public Health Agency, the National Board of Health, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, the Swedish Food Agency, the Swedish Work Environment Authority and the country's regions and health care professionals in Sweden.
The role of the Swedish Medical Products Agency
The Swedish Medical Products Agency works with the Public Health Agency of Sweden, the National Board of Health and Welfare, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, the National Food Administration, the Swedish Work Environment Authority and the country's regions, as well as communicable diseases doctors in Sweden.
The Swedish Medical Products Agency’s responsibilities:
- investigates and approves medical products and vaccines
- supervision of the manufacture, distribution and sale of medical products
- assesses and decides on licence applications and exemptions and handles back-orders of medical products
- supervisory responsibility for ensuring that medical devices, such as medical protective equipment, comply with the applicable rules.
It is the Public Health Agency of Sweden that coordinates infection control in Sweden and which, among other things, develops recommendations and knowledge bases on how to combat an infection.
