Vaccines are medicines that prevent infectious diseases. Vaccination is one of the most effective medical method to prevent contagious diseases and has been used for over fifty years. Vaccines stimulates the human immune system similar to a real infection. When the body is exposed to the same infectious agent, the immune system can fight the disease quickly.
The vaccines used today in the national vaccination programme are high in effectiveness. That does not mean they have a 100 percent effect, there is still a risk to be exposed to infection.
Therefor it is important to vaccinate the major part of the population to limit the spreading of the disease.
Vaccination is voluntary
All vaccination is voluntary. Make sure to get information about the vaccine and what it is for, what protection you get and what side effects it may cause before you make the decision (for yourself or someone else) about getting vaccinated.
It is also important to communicate with your physician about allergies or underlying diseases before getting vaccinated.
Consultation can be found on 1177 Vårdguiden and at your local vaccination centre.
